Taking place completely on an interstellar journey, this story is not heavy on speculative science it’s more about the bigger picture of our world as it is, bringing the reader in with a relatable premise and letting the rest unfold slowly, toward the inevitable, gutting resolution. This is one of the few stories from those days that has stuck with me to the point that I still think about it 20 years later. “The Cold Equations” by Tom Godwin from The Science Fiction Hall of Fame 1929-1964 (which also contains other fabulous stories). I used to be a huge sci-fi short story buff and would tear through anthologies. ![]() 5/27/2023 0 Comments Photographer saul leiter![]() ![]() Turning the corner, you are unexpectedly struck by his talented and colourful artistry and it was a privilege to be able to view Leiter’s paintings first hand.įollowing the room around I gained a deeper understanding of his career as it progressed from early coloured fashion photography to his photo documentary of New York City in later years. If you follow the route to the left, you can experience first-hand how his career developed, starting with his punchy black and white photographs taken with his 35 mm Leica. When I first walked into the exhibition there were two choices to view his work as it is exhibited in an L shaped formation. ![]() ![]() ![]() It was an exciting prospect to be able to engage with the work first-hand that I had only previously seen via computer screens and how I was able to share this experience with a range of different people. When I first entered the exhibition, I was instantly hit by the vivid colour across the walls, a clear indication of Leiter’s work and metaphor for his career. It the Saul Leiter exhibition at The Photographers Gallery that showcases Leiter’s highly influential work, from his stunning portraits to totally abstract photographs and paintings. ![]() ![]() ![]() When a subject captured his attention, he investigated it thoroughly with a notable singlemindedness. He is rather eccentric, very focused, and has a tendency to be extremely direct and bulldoze through social mores. ![]() And for Kevin, this represents a big problem. ![]() The second of these women is Rosamund Jameson, and in addition to inheriting money, she has inherited the Duke’s share in Kevin Radnor’s business. The basis of this series is that a Duke dies in suspicious circumstances, and it turns out that rather than leaving his money to his family, he has left it to three women from poor and working class backgrounds whom nobody in the family has ever heard of. This is the second book in the Duke’s Heiress series, but you really don’t need to have read the first book to enjoy it. While it was by no means a flawless romance, I adored the heroine, and there was one scene that hit me straight in the heart. Heiress in Red Silk is a book that hooked right into my emotions and gave me what I wanted and needed from a story right now. We will definitely be including these books on our Christmas wish list. Laugh out loud! We will be honest, we have not read any of the other books in the series and have only seen the movie, Confessions of a Shopaholic. Throughout the book, you follow Becky and her hilarious escapades to not only find the perfect gifts but to also be the hostess with the mostest. ![]() Although some may be worried, she goes to extreme lengths to make sure that Christmas is successful. Becky is given the task of hosting Christmas this year, for the first time ever.
